Mission Statement
Originally from Brooklyn, NY, Bebe pursued a career in theater after graduating from NYU. After the birth of her daughter, the trajectory of her life path was forever changed because of the doula who attended her birth. She became a doula in 2015 and has walked alongside families with a calm, grounded presence, blending evidence-based care with intuitive support as a doula ever since. She became a licensed midwife to have more leverage in supporting positive birth outcomes. Her passion for autonomy drives her work and she’s known for creating respectful, safe, and empowering experiences throughout the perinatal period. Bebe is known for her steady presence, sharp clinical insight, and deep respect for each family’s unique journey.
Bebe believes that birth should be informed, respected, and centered on each woman's wisdom. With every interaction, she is committed to educating clients so that they can truly make informed choices while partnering in their care. The importance of this realization began after receiving midwifery care in her second pregnancy and being blown away by how nurtured and empowered she felt, unlike any other medical care she had ever received.
Outside of midwifery, Bebe loves spending time with her family which is her first ministry. She loves an adventure with her husband, homeschooling her 3 children, doing missionary trips and sisterhood.

Drawing inspiration from countries with the strongest perinatal outcomes, we envision a future in the United States where midwifery care is the standard, not the exception. Where low-risk pregnancy and birth are cared for without the routine use of high-risk procedures. A future where birth is reclaimed as a sacred, supported rite of passage. The District Midwives are here to transform the landscape of maternity care—restoring dignity, safety, joy and healing to every birth experience. Through trust, the use of the most current evidence-based research, and genuine connection, we are building a legacy of community-rooted, culturally-honoring care that redefines how people experience pregnancy, birth, and postpartum. We aim to grow into a collaborative hub with in-house perinatal health professionals working together to support a thriving, inclusive community for various needs throughout the perinatal journey.
Vision Statement
Ashley “Asha” Compton, CPM, LM
Asha is passionate about creating spaces where women can have community during the perinatal period. Whether it’s sharing a laugh, lending a shoulder to cry on, or enjoying a meal together, support makes all the difference when it comes to pregnancy, birth and postpartum.
Asha is a graduate of the University of North Carolina Wilmington and holds a bachelor’s degree in Spanish. After a few years in the language world, Asha started her journey into perinatal health by becoming a Birth and Postpartum Doula in 2017. In that space, she learned about the power of client education, bodily autonomy and physiological birth. Asha completed her midwifery training at Southwest Wisconsin Technical College and Premier Birth Center in 2024, gaining experience in both home births and fast-paced, high volume birth centers.
Asha is a Certified Professional Midwife (CPM) and Licensed Midwife (LM) with the Virginia Board of Medicine. She looks forward to continuing the work she is passionate about and improving birth outcomes for people of color along the way. A bilingual midwife, she aims to better support immigrant communities, expanding her reach to serve Black and Brown women— who continue to experience the highest maternal mortality rates.
